Warwick Professor Black Pitch Black 2017
Warwick Estate is a high-end South African winery in the Stellenbosch region. The estate has a rich farming history dating back to 1771. Then a fruit farm, Warwick only emerged on the forefront of South Africa’s wine scene when Stan and Norma Ratcliffe bought the estate in 1964 and started developing the land with an extensive focus on the classic Bordeaux varieties. The Warwick Professor Black Pitch Black 2017 represents a classic Bordeaux blend with predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc varietals, mixed with Cinsault. Dark berries, wild strawberries, violets, and herbs fill the glass. The palate is rich and textured with fine-grained tannins and a bright and piercing freshness delivered by the unwooded Cinsault component. The finish is dark and broody with concentration and a lingering aftertaste. This red wine is ready to enjoy now but will continue to develop well over the next decade.
Deep ruby; rather Bordeaux-like aromas of cassis, lead pencils, mint choc and even a touch of violets. Full-bodied and intense with savoury red plum flavours backed by good oak which lends distinction. Fine wine.
Roast lamb with egg and lemon sauce, Greek style, or roast sirloin with horseradish sauce, or slow-roasted lamb shanks.
