Constantia Uitsig


Constantia Uitsig is a wine estate situated along the wine valley of Constantia and is famous for housing the Lategan family for five generations. Constantia Uitsig is very a very popular wine estate and this is supported through the award winning wines that are available at the wine farm. Furthermore, there is a luxurious hotel, a spa, a cricket oval and three excellent restaurants that are world-renowned, which are all situated on the wine estate. Constantia Uitsig is just 20 minutes outside of Cape Town. The beauty of the valley in Constantia makes the wine estate one of the most unique in South Africa.

Constantia Uitsig has a variety of red and white wines. All the white wines are screw capped and the red wines are corked. The wines that are produced at Constantia Uitsig are red and white Bordaeux blends, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Chardonnay.

Wine tasting at Constantia Uitsig is available seven days a week and can include as many as 30 people. The wine tasting experience at Constantia Uitsig proves to be very educational as it enriches the history of the wines and it allows the customers to enjoy a variety of superb wines. 


The Meerlust wine estate is situated 15km south of Stellenbosch. The estate has been producing wine for centuries and to be precise, Meerlust wine has been produced since 1756. Touring the Meerlust wine estate showcases the classical wine cellar, the cemetery of the Myburg family( the family that started the production of wine at Meerlust), the manor house, the rose gardens and the bird sanctuary.

The Cape Dutch cellar that is found on the Meerlust wine estate was originally a wagon house the cellar was built in 1776. The cellar displays a huge amount of architectural detail. However, there have to recent improvements of the cellar at Meerlust to modernize it slightly. 

At Meerlust, there a number of excellent red and white wines that is sold. The red wines include: Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Meerlust Red, and Meerlust Rubicon. The only white wine that is available at Meerlust, is the Chardonnay.

Wine tasting at the Meerlust wine estate is a great way to experience all the different wines that are available at the estate. Wine tasting in the tasting room is open form Monday to Sunday.


The Thelema wine estate has been producing quality wine since 1988 after Gyles Webb bought the incredible fruit farm in 1983. Thelema is considered to be one of the most spectacular places in South Africa and this is largely due to the excellent mountain views, old oak trees and the noisy peacocks. The Thelema wine estate is found at the top of the Helshoogte Pass in Stellenbosch. Thumela is the highest wine estate above sea level in the Stellenbosch area, ranging between 370 to 640 metres. The conditions created by the high altitude at the Thumela wine estate are ideal for production of both red and white wines.

There are many wines available at the Thumela wine estate. The white wines include: Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and a Thumela white blend. The red wines include: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, and a Thumela red blend. Additionally, dessert wines are also available at the Thumela wine estate.

Wine tasting at the Thumela wine estate is an ideal experience for family outings. The wine tastings are open from Monday to Saturday. 


The Beyerskloof wine estate is in Stellenbosch and is well known for producing excellent wines. The wine estate was formed in 1988 by Beyers Truter and four wine lovers from Johannesburg. Beyers Truter is the direct descendant of Jan Beyers, who originally sold the farm in 1895.The Beyerskloof Pinotage is particularly successful and the wine estate specialises in producing Pinotage, making it one of the finest Pinotages around.

There are a number of excellent wines available at the Beyerskloof wine estate. The easy drinking wines are as follows: Chenin Blanc/ Pinotage, Pinotage( which is South Africa’s most popular Pinoatge), Pinotage Dry Rose,  and the Cabernet Sauvignon. The higher quality wines include: Pinotage Brut Rose, Synergy (Cape blend), Pinotage resverve, and the Lagare. The best quality wines available at the Beyerskloof wine estate is the Field Blend, Diesel Pinotage and the Faith,

The Beyerskloof wine estate offers a great wine tasting experience which allows a day filled with sipping and swirling some of South Africa’s top wines. Wine tasting at Beyerskloof is available from Monday to Saturday. However, the wine tasting room is open from 10am to 4:30 pm on Saturday, where as it is open from 8am to 4:30pm during the rest of the week.


The Backsburg wine estate is situated in Franshoek, specifically lying on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountains. The cellars at the Backsberg wine esatate were first opened in 1970, which was when the first Backburg wine was available. The farm at Backsberg originally was a peach farm, but over the next 10 years was replaced with vineyards to produce the quality wine that Backsberg produces. At the Backsberg wine estate, their philosophy is to produce wine with structure and finesse, that is easy to drink and they have been hugely successful in that regard.

There is a wide variety of wines available at Backsberg. The Family Reserve range includes a white and a red blend of wine. The Black Label Rangel includes Sparkiling MCC Brut, John Martin Sauvignon Blanc, Hillside Viognier, Beyond Borders Pinot Noir, Pumphouse Shiraz, and the Klein Babylonstoren. The Mediterranean range includes a wine by the name of Elbar, which is inspired by the fruitiness of the French and Italian wines. The Premium Range includes Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Rose, Dry Red, Pinotage, Merlot, and Cabernet sauvignon. Furthermore a selection of brandy’s are produced at Backsberg. They are the Sydney Black NV, The Sydney Black 10yr and the Sydney Black 15yr.

Wine tasting at the Backsberg wine state is open from Monday to Friday from 8pm to 5pm, Saturday from 9:30am to 4:30pm and on Sunday from 10:30am to 4:30pm.
