With its Mediterranean climate and a growing band of young, innovative wine makers, the Swartland region of South Africa is on the rise. Traditionally, the region was characterised by bush vines, but with expanded production, trellis vineyards are on the increase. Chenin Blanc and Shiraz love the warmer climate and the region produces exceptional examples of these grapes. This region is also seeing growth in a number of Rhone varietals (Grenache, Viognier, Roussanne and Cinsault), which feel entirely at home in this sunny part of the world.
