Semillon
Despite its long-standing heritage in South Africa (Semillon was widely grown here in the early 19th century), it’s not a particularly well-known grape locally. Often used in white Bordeaux-style blends, there are some SA winemakers producing single variety Semillon, most notably in the Franschhoek and Constantia regions. The grape likes oak, and produces flavours of peach, pineapple and lime and, as it ages, honey and wet wool.
