Riesling originated from the Rhine Valley in Germany, and it’s an aromatic variety with perfumed notes and high acidity. And this makes it a good wine pairing with spicier food (if you’re not drinking beer that is!). Riesling can be dry, off-dry and sweet, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the label for the style you enjoy. In its young days, Riesling will have flavours of quince, green apple and granadilla… as it ages you should get aromas of kerosene on the nose.
