Often difficult to grow, Mourvedre is more traditionally used in Rhone blends, bringing with it high tannins and alcohol levels. As a single variety, the wine has soft fruity flavours, often with a wilder ‘gamey’ edge. In South Africa, the grape is grown in the area around Malmesbury.
