More Wine Regions

The first vines in South Africa were planted by Jan van Riebeeck in 1655; today, there are approximately 95 000 hectares under vines across an area some 800km in length. In total, the South African winelands encompass 27 diverse districts and 78 smaller wards in total. The main concentration of vineyards exist in the Western Cape and include five regions, the Breede River Valley, Cape South Coast, Coastal Region, Klein Karoo and Olifants River. Of course, within each of these, there are smaller districts and wards, each with a distinctive terroir and wines to explore.
