This apple brandy hails specifically from the Normandy region of France, and is made from a wide array of apples. Often, the producer will mix sweeter apples with those that are more tart to give the distilled liquor its distinctive taste. Two years of ageing is required to be called calvados, but the brandy can be aged for much longer, become darker in colour and more intense in flavour.
